Home > RecreationState Parks, Historic Sites, and Recreation Areas in the Finger LakesThe Finger Lakes offers visitors and residents a wealth of recreational activities, including 38 state parks, historic sites, and recreation areas, 6 of which are or have golf courses. Regional OfficesMany of these sites, especially the parks with gorges and waterfalls, have interesting geological and human histories. Be sure to pick up a brochure at the entrance to the site and read it before you start exploring, so that you get the most out of your site experience. Access ProgramsIf you plan to frequent the state parks often, consider purchasing an Empire Passport, an annual pass to the state's parks and recreational facilities. New York State residents 62 years old or older qualify for the Golden Park Program, which allows free access to state parks on non-holiday weekdays. And the Access Pass provides free access to all state parks, historic sites, and certain recreational facilities to residents with permanent disabilities. Picking PlantsPlease remember that, unlike in some states, picking, digging, or cutting down plants is illegal in New York state parks.
