817 Old State Rd.
Sterling, NY 13156
Located just east of the village of Fair Haven, the course is part of Fair Haven Beach State Park, the entrance of which is .5 mi./.8 km. west of the entrance to the course.
Designed by Alan Tomlinson, the regulation course is an 18-hole public course playing under USGA rules. The course opened in 1995 and offers 5,730 yeards of golf from the longest tee with a par 71. The course rating is 66.5 with a slope rating of 108 on rye grass.
The course sits on a plateau above the southern shore of Lake Ontario where the soil is natural sandy with good drainage. The land undulates, sometimes considerably. There are four water hazards at holes 4, 5, 11, and 16. Sand traps are minimally used and discretely placed. Trees are mature but shouldn't deter from a good golfer's game.
Although there is no driving range, you can practice your putts on one of two practice putting green--one with two holes, the other with 3 holes and a sand trap.
The course has a clubhouse with a small snack bar and tables inside and out. There is no pro shop and equipment, other than carts, is not rented.
The course is open from mid-April to late-October, depending on the weather. When the course is not being used for golf, it is open to non-abusive activities should as wildlife watching, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. First-time users are asked to get permission from the manager at the phone number above.
