Designated a National Recreational Trail by the United States Department of the Interior's National Park Service

 

The Old Erie Canal State Park Trail in the Finger Lakes, New York is great for biking and hiking. This cross-over bridge leads to a picnic area along the canal.

 

Also known as the Old Erie Canal State Park Trail, this scenic linear trail begins in Dewitt (Onondaga County) and ends in Rome (Oneida County). (Note: Most of this park is out of the Finger Lakes region.)

 

Length: 36 mi./58 km.

Trail Surface: stone dust, gravel

Trail Uses: hiking, biking, in-line skating, cross-county skiing, snowmobiling, horseback riding, canoeing, kayaking, wildlife watching

Picnic Areas: Cedar Bay and Poolsbrook

Campsites: Green Lakes State Park and Verona Beach State Park

Boat Launches: 3 (car-top boats only)

Historic Structures: canal museum, change bridge, aqueducts, lime kiln remains, canal-era buildings

Access/Parking: Cedar Bay Picnic Area in DeWitt, at the intersection of State Routes 257 and 290, or at Green Lakes State Park

Pets: must be leashed
