Disc Golf in the Finger Lakes

This is part of the Panther Highlands Disc Golf Course, an 18-hole, par-3 course that runs through the Paul M. Kelsey Arboretum on the campus of Tompkins Cortland Community College. Some of the baskets are so far from the trees that they can barely be seen.

It's thrilling to see a colored disc come flying through the trees from 300 ft./91 m. back to hone in, as if by radar, on the chains and that quick rattling just before it clangs into the basket.

Disc golf is an outdoor sport for people of all ages. If you can toss a disc, you can play. And, in most case, playing is free.

There are nearly two dozen disc golf courses in the Finger Lakes. Most of them are listed on the Professional Disc Golf Association's Web site. However, some are so new, you can only find them by checking the local clubs below.

This is Hole 2 at Tompkins Cortland Community College. The shot is straight through the trees. The tee is way off in the background.
