Bicycling in the Finger Lakes: Maps & Brochures

Maps and brochures dealing with biking in the Finger Lakes are produced by many agencies and organizations. Consequently, there is no single place where you can find this material. I've tried to list some of the places that you can go to for this information to give you a start.

¶ Color topographical maps are available for downloading and printing from http://www.topozone.com. You can search for topographical maps in several ways at this site, but the best way is probably by the name of the town, so have a list of those ready when you conduct your search.

¶ Hard-copy versions of maps for New York State Bike Route 5, which runs between Buffalo and Syracuse, and New York State Bike Route 17, which runs from Buffalo across the southern portion of the state to Orange County, are available through county tourism bureaus and the NYS Dept. of Transportation. On-line versions of the Route 5 map are here (for those parts through the Finger Lakes): Monroe County, Wayne County, Onondaga County. Cayuga County doesn't appear to be on-line at this time.

¶ "Biking & Hiking in the Central Destinations of the Finger Lakes Region" available at county tourism bureaus and http://www.finger-lakes.com

¶ On-Street Bicycle Ratings Maps of the City of Rochester, the City of Canandaigua, and the Genesee Valley Park and Vicinity.

¶ Multi-use trails map of the Genesee-Finger Lakes Region and trails descriptions.

You can find maps of individual locations to bicycle in many places, including on this Web Site. However, counties in the Finger Lakes are beginning to produce full-color maps of the on-road bicycling opportunities in their counties. These maps can be hard to find unless you know where to look. Here are the ones I've found. Keep in mind that many of these maps are usually quite large and would be impossible to print in full size on the ordinary computer printer. These maps may be available (usually for free) from the county visitors bureaus.
