CORN MAZES

Corn mazes (maize mazes) are the newest form of agribusiness, and big business they are. All of the farms in the Finger Lakes that have mazes but one have a Web site. Please visit these sites for information about dates and hours of operation, admission prices, other activities the farm offers, and directions.

Hints for a successful maze experience:

1. Check out the farm's Web site for an aerial view of the maze. Print out a picture of the maze to have with you as a guide.
2. Plan well. Find out what other activities the farm offers and decide who wants to participate in those activities before you go. Allow for plenty of time for each activity including the time for the maze.
3. Expect small children to get tired (and maybe cranky). It's a lot of activity for one day.
4. Bring along everything your family needs to maintain their comfort level: comfortable shoes, bottles of water, a cooler with food, wipes for keep hands clean, etc.
5. Consider the weather. Remember that, if it's rained recently, the ground of the maze may be muddy. In October, the days can be quite cool. Do you need to bring hats and gloves?
6. If there's a corn tunnel and they'll be crawling on the ground, do you want to bring a change of clothes for the kids?
