Campgrounds in Cayuga County

Camping can create some unforgetable experiences, and camping in the Finger Lakes is no exception. Whether you're pitching a tent in a state forest (which is free and requires no permit for the first three days) or renting a lodge with all the amenities in one of the Finger Lakes' beautiful state parks, you'll enjoy being outdoors in the Finger Lakes. You can connect with the Finger Lakes Trail for some great hiking, bike or boat along the Erie Canal, or just sit by a campfire on a warm summer's night.

Please keep in mind that the Finger Lakes has many wild animals that frequent parks and many be attracted to campgrounds, including black bears, raccoons, and skunks. Keep your possessions out of harm's way, don't leave food lying around, and make sure your pets are leashed.

You will be expected to leave your site clean and any fires totally extinguished.

Finally, be aware that campgrounds on the lakes--no matter which lake--are extremely popular and in high demand. You should make reservations for a site to avoid being disappointed.

Named for Millard Fillmore, this country's thirteenth president, Fillmore Glen State Park is an oasis of cool, dense woods crowding into a long, narrow gorge. Its hiking trails offer spectacular views, unique geological formations, including five waterfalls, and a botanically rich glen. The park has 60 campsites, a stream-fed swimming pool and boating in the Owasco Lake inlet. Park activities including tours through the gorge are offered from July 4th to Labor Day (early September). In the winter, hiking, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling are permitted on unplowed roads.

For those who prefer the luxuries of home, the park offers a full-service cottage located on the shore of Cayuga Lake at Long Point. Cottage amenities include a kitchen with a gas stove, refrigerator, sink, full bath, hot water, electricity, bedroom with double bed and dressers, main room with a sleeper sofa, furniture, dining table with chairs, a wood stove, boat dock, picnic table, fire ring and grill, and a small lawn area. The gorge trails are closed in the winter. Camping mid-May to mid-October. 60 tent/trailer sites (10 electric), 3 cabins. 941 acres. Pets must be leashed.
