Bicycling in the Finger Lakes: Back-Road & Off-Road

One could spend a lifetime riding the back roads and out-of-the-way places in New York State. With its rolling hills and long lakes, the Finger Lakes presents unlimited opportunities from, two-lane highways, to unpaved town roads, to trails along the canals, and through the parks.
WORD OF CAUTION
Not all areas allow off-road biking. For example, there is currently no mountain biking allowed in any of the Monroe County Parks nor in the Finger Lakes National Forest (though dirt roads around the forest are certainly open to biking). Some state forests that are listed in brochures as permitting mountain biking actually do not. In general, mountain biking is allowed in state forests only on trails specifically marked for biking.
