He was considered one of the great orators of his time. He lived only the first few months of his life in this house at which time his family moved out of the area. Arnold Potter eventually owned most of the land that now comprises the towns of Middlesex and Potter. His mansion is said to have been built in 1806. A Quaker by birth, Wilkinson was the first American-born woman to start a religion. Called the Society of Universal Friends, it espoused pacifism, abolitionism, and plain dress.
