Weddings in the Finger Lakes: Photographers & Videographers

There are hundreds of wedding photographers in the Finger Lakes region, each one with something unique to offer you on your big day. These photographers will travel to any location in the Finger Lakes, consequently they are listed alphabetically as a single group and not by the city or county they call home.

Selecting a Wedding Photographer

Because you get only one chance to get it right, here are some things you might want to remember when selecting the photographer of your wedding.

1. Don't rely on friends or family, always hire a pro.

2. Photographers come in a wide variety of styles and capabilities. Find the photographer that matches your style and budget.

3. Visit several photographers to make sure you're confident they're qualified to take the kind of photos you want.

4. Ask the photographer if he or she will be the person taking your photos. Find out if your photographer charges separately for his or her assistant.

5. Find out what type of equipment will be used, what digital and video capabilities the photographer offers.

6. Prior to the wedding, it's best to communicate via email, keeping copies of every email you send to and receive from the photographer.

7. When you decide on a photographer, always put everything in writing. Have both parties sign the document. This is called a contract. (In New York State, both parties must agree before a contract is entered into. If it isn't in the contract, it hasn't been agreed to.)

8. Make sure the agreed fee is put into the contract.

9. Agree on a payment schedule and refund policy. Put them in the contract.

10. It is your responsibility to make sure your photographer knows the rules and restrictions of the locations where he or she will be shooting. Don't leave the responsibility up to someone else.
