Home > Basics > AgricultureCommunity Supported Agriculture (CSA) in the Finger LakesCommunity Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a concept where individuals and families--shareholders--buy a share of the production of a farm at the beginning of each year. In that way, each shareholder shares in the bounty (or loss) of that year's production. The farmer benefits because he or she has a guaranteed income no matter whether the production was good or bad that year. Most CSAs are organic to some degree. Some CSAs allow or encourage shareholders to work on the farm. Some CSAs permit tourists to come and buy produce. Be sure to ask before stopping by.
